h1. Community IRC Messaging Service (cims)
A modular, multi-network, multi-frequency community broadcasting TCL-script for eggdrop irc-bots.
h2. What's this all about?
CIMS is a collection of TCL-scripts for the good ol' eggdrop irc bot (http://www.eggheads.org). A bot running this script may be configured so that it broadcasts user messages to other participating channels. Thus it allows communities to announce messages to their channels. Thus, it is used to build up a "network" of channels which communicate stuff of interest to each other.
h2. Where's the source?
The source is right here on this site.
So, you can either get it here: http://redmine.b4r.org/projects/cims/repository Or via git (anonymous read access) here: git clone git://b4r.org/cims
The source has been released under the GPLv1 license on 2004-10-21 20:40cet
h2. I wanna contribute some code! I want to fix things!
There are two ways to help us out. You can either
h2. Where can I find you?
Try #quadaver on Quakenet: irc://irc.quakenet.org/quadaver
Or find our #qwnet on Quakenet: irc://irc.quakenet.org/qwnet - which is still active! 2012!!
h2. Who is using this thing?
We currently know of #qwnet in Quakenet (irc.quakenet.org) heaviliy utilizing it. ;) Surprise. That's "us". We use this script for messages in the Quakeworld (qw) community. Its website is here: http://qwnet.quadaver.org
Other people using this script are not (yet) known. We got a question of a guy who wants to use it in the australian qw community. He probably wants to build another messaging network for it and we are here to help on setting it up.
From beginning mid-2004 until mid-2007, the script has been used by #messagenet on Quakenet for the Action Quake 2 community.
h2. Can I just have a bot from you? (How can my channel participate?)
What?! Naah, we only code this stuff. Since we can't make sure to know who is running the network that you mean ...
Well ok, you probably mean to participate in the Quakeworld community messaging service called (qwnet). As written on the qwnet homepage (http://qwnet.quadaver.org) goto irc://irc.quakenet.org/qwnet (#qwnet on irc.quakenet.org) and just ask for it there. A channel op will give it to you once he read your channel message.
h2. I contacted some people who maintain a network, they told me, to install this on my eggdrop bot... How?!
Here, you find some more detailled instructions to install the script: Installation and how to configure a bot to load a network configuration
h2. I want to start an own network. I want people to participate in that network... How do I start?
Read up on: Script installation And read up on how to configure a network: Network configuration
If you want some more tools to make network configuration easier, ask some people in #qwnet. They (actually we, hehe.) coded an "too easy to be true php-config-tool" and an "Ridiculously comfortable looking Ruby on Rails Application". Ask in #quadaver or #qwnet.
h2. What has been changed throughout the versions?
You can find the changelog here: Changelog
h2. I think I found a bug. What do?
Report it here: http://redmine.b4r.org/projects/cims/issues
h2. Are there more Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)?
Sure, some more are here: FAQ
